It's no longer news that the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) mandated the telecommunication operators in Nigeria to implement Do-Not-Disturb (DND) starting from July 1, 2016. Since then, there has been an alarming general issue with major GSM Networks (MTN, Airtel, Glo, 9Mobile) in Nigeria not delivering bulk SMS to some mobile phone numbers. This issue is as a result of the introduction of the Do-Not-Disturb (DND) service by the GSM Network operators in Nigeria which allows their customers to opt out of receiving promotional messages for 3rd Party services (Bulk SMS, VAS promos, etc.)

While this development seems definitely fine for some customers who do not want to receive promotional messages for 3rd Party services (Bulk SMS, VAS promos, etc.), it's also a bad one for major customers who are willing to always get important updates for their job interviews, Church announcements etc. In this guide, I'm going to show you how to deactivate Do-not-Disturb (DND) for all GSM networks in Nigeria.

 

How to Deactivate DND on MTN

To deactivate DND on any MTN number, Text ALLOW to 2442.

How to Deactivate DND on Airtel

To deactivate DND on any Airtel number, Text ALLOW to 2442.

To deactivate DND on any Glo number, Text CANCEL to 2442.

How to Deactivate DND on 9Mobile (Etisalat)

To deactivate DND on any 9mobile (Etisalat) number, Text START to 2442.

Note: DND deactivation may take up to 24 hours to complete the process. To opt-out is free.

To check status, you will need to text the key word STATUS to 2442

Are promotional messages for MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9Mobile services included in DND?

NO. DND service is only introduced for 3rd party services e.g. VAS, Bulk SMS etc.
